The Customer's Brief
The property has a long history, with the house dating back to the 1600s, so retaining the character of the existing garden was particularly important.
The existing Yorkstone patio had been in place for a considerable amount of time and was in need of restoration.
The customer wanted the patio brought back into better condition without losing the character of the original stone.
There was also existing brickwork around the garden that required attention, along with the edging around the pond.
What We Did
The existing Yorkstone patio was carefully lifted so the individual stones could be cleaned before being reinstated.
Once the stone had been cleaned, we relaid the existing Yorkstone to recreate the patio area.
The joints were then finished with weather-struck pointing, giving the restored patio a defined finish while retaining its traditional appearance.
We also installed new cement edging around the pond, creating a cleaner and more defined border between the pond and surrounding paving.
As part of the restoration work, the existing brickwork was cleaned and individual bricks that required attention were repaired.
Preserving Existing Materials
One of the important aspects of this project was working with the materials already present at the property.
Rather than removing the original Yorkstone and replacing it with a completely new paving material, the existing stone was retained, cleaned and reused.
