Creating a Level and Usable Garden
This garden in Shirley underwent a complete transformation after the customer decided to remove an unused garage and tackle the existing changes in ground level.
The aim was to create a much more practical and open garden by raising the lower section so the garden could be brought together on one level. Unwanted trees and bushes were also removed before the new garden layout was completed.
The Customer's Brief
The existing garden was uneven and included an unused garage that was taking up valuable space.
The customer wanted to remove the garage, raise the garden and create one consistent level that would make the space much more usable.
They also wanted to remove unnecessary trees and bushes and introduce a new boundary design that complemented the property.
What We Did
D Sharp Design & Build carried out a series of changes to completely restructure the garden.
The unused garage was knocked down and the garden was raised to create a more level layout. Unwanted trees and bushes were also removed, opening up the space considerably.
The garden was then turfed to create a clean, open area across the newly levelled garden.
To create the new boundary, we installed 13 brick piers, using bricks selected to match the existing house. Coping stones were added to the tops of the piers to complete the structure.
Between the brick piers, we installed Cedarwood slatted fencing, creating a strong contrast between the brickwork and the horizontal timber-style panels.

A key feature of this garden is the combination of traditional brickwork with the more contemporary appearance of the slatted fencing.
The brick piers tie the new boundary into the existing property, while the Cedarwood slatted panels provide a more modern finish.
