Transforming a Challenging Front Garden
When this customer moved into their new home in Sanderstead, the front driveway was overgrown with grass and had four different levels, making the space difficult to use and far from the finished appearance they wanted.
D Sharp Design & Build completely reworked the front garden, removing more than 60 tonnes of material to create a much more practical and level driveway.
The Customer's Brief
The existing front garden presented several challenges, particularly the four different ground levels and the amount of material that needed to be removed.
The customer wanted a level, usable driveway that would complement their new property while also improving the overall appearance of the front of the house.
They also wanted a modern boundary treatment, leading to the installation of composite fencing on either side of the property.
What We Did
The project involved extensive ground preparation before the new driveway could be installed.
More than 60 tonnes of material were removed from the front garden to create the required levels. New drainage was installed as part of the works, including ACO drainage channels.
Once the groundwork was completed, we installed a new block paving driveway with a light grey edging, creating a defined border around the main driveway area.
We also installed a light grey porcelain step at the entrance to the property, creating a more prominent and welcoming entrance.
To complete the transformation, composite fencing was installed along both sides of the property, giving the front garden a contemporary finish.
Managing Changes in Ground Level
The existing four-level layout made this project considerably more involved than simply replacing an existing driveway surface.
Creating a more consistent level required substantial excavation and careful preparation before the new driveway could be constructed.
Drainage was also incorporated into the design, with ACO channels installed to form part of the new drainage arrangement.
A Modern Combination of Materials
The finished driveway combines block paving with contrasting light grey edging, while the porcelain entrance step adds another contemporary element to the frontage.
The composite fencing on either side of the property complements the driveway and gives the boundaries a clean, modern appearance.
The different materials work together to create a cohesive finish across the front of the property.
